You have inspired us to go as-green-as-possible with our kitchen/den remodel. Old cabinets are going to a Habitat project in Mexico, and new fireplace mantel is made from re-claimed pine scraps. It looks like exotic hardwood; heavily grained and unusual. We also chose to not discard several of the appliances but put them back in the new kitchen for more years of use, and to Freecycle others that still work. Also found a smelter to melt down the metal in the broken appliances to recycle. It's been a good learning experience for the kids. Not as green as your home, but you made us think, and choose differently.
